About Jerri

Like many people of my generation, my grandmother taught me how to needlepoint. I can still see that piece in my mind. A kit from the local 5 and Dime store. I couldn’t wait to get back to the house and thread the needle.

There I was, stitching the sky. Light blue wool. So excited. Then Nonnie as we called her, came over, took the piece from me, turned it over and told me I was doing it all wrong. She handed it back and walked away. I was crushed.

Years later, I found my way back to needlepoint. A great gift store had this fabulous hunt scene. Yes, I am a horse lover! Remember the time when you selected the canvas, then the salesperson laid the canvas on the grid and pulled enough wool for the canvas? I did three of these! All continental stitch.

During one of those visits, I was introduced to a local artist who hand-painted canvases. And she did horses! Great horses!!!! I was in love.

But these weren’t just horses in a field. These were carousel horses. With all the
trappings. The fancy saddles and bridles, poles, floor and top. The artist and I hit it off, and I’ve never looked back.

This was the time that Balger and Christopher were the hot new fiber in town. Perfect for all the bling that goes with a carousel. Medici wool and Marlitt rayon floss. I couldn’t get enough.

Then my new friend figured out that instead of painting the floor, the background, and the top, one could use decorative stitches and bargello and create this piece that captured the excitement of a real carousel. That’s where it all began.

Balger eventually was replaced by Kreinik, and I still have several hanks of Christopher. I still love Marlitt, although it has been discontinued. These old friends have been replaced by new favorites: Gloriana, Silk Lame Braid, Pepper Pots, Vineyard Silk, just to name a few.

My journey continues. I have the privilege of leading a group of wonderful stitchers in this world of painted canvases, fabulous fibers, and never-ending creativity. The joy and fulfillment they freely share are their gift to me. It would be my honor to share this excitement with you.

Happy stitching!
